    Description

    TECHNICAL INTERCHANGE MEETING OBJECTIVE:
DARPA will host an in-person Technical Interchange Meeting (TIM) on Advanced Energetics Manufacturing anticipated to occur in approximately May 2026 in Arlington, VA. The purpose of this TIM is to meet with the energetics community to discuss technologies related to increasing the efficiency and/or distributed production of energetic materials, promote additional discussion on this topic, address questions from industry and government stakeholders, and provide a forum for industry to present their capabilities.

    BACKGROUND:
Energetics in the U.S. are produced almost exclusively using batch processing in large mixers with highly concentrated, pure input materials due to the susceptibility to impurities from the large reaction volume and limited control. Furthermore, these are fixed systems designed to only produce one class of product and require a large footprint (acres) of secondary processing to safely handle in batches. These legacy approaches are hindered by cost, size, and technical expertise required to operate and maintain multiple, different dedicated energetics processing reactors for both explosive and propellant needs.
