The primary objective of this project is repairing deficiencies in three railroad bridges and one vehicular bridge at Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point (MOTSU), Southport, North Carolina. Two of the structures are steel trestles, and two are reinforced concrete. Repairs to the structures include replacing bolts, modifying drain pipes, repainting corroded steel members, sealing cracked concrete, patching concrete spalls, sealing cracked asphalt, replacing a fence post, adding signage, and removing vegetation. All work shall be performed in accordance with the contract specifications, manufacturer?s recommendations, American Concrete Institute (ACI) Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete (ACI 318), ACI Code Requirements for Assessment, Repair, and Rehabilitation of Existing Concrete Structures (ACI 562), UFC 4-860-01FA Railroad Design and Rehabilitation, and American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-way Association?s (AREMA) Manual for Railway Engineering. Reference North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) requirements for construction and testing of materials including concrete, asphalt and sub-grades and rip rap.
