The Tie Rod Cylinder is a miter gate operating cylinder used at Robert C. Byrd Locks and Dam (RCB). The cylinder has a 10? inch diameter bore and 5-1/2? inch diameter piston rod with a total stroke of 196 9/16 inches. The Contractor shall fabricate a new piston and other components as shown on RCB As Built DWG. 1480-D. A stem adapter (piston rod end on as-built drawing) is welded to the rod end of the cylinder. The stem adapter will need to be removed and replaced. The threads of the rod will need to be repaired. The new stem adapter will need to have threads match the rod end threads. Contractor to return the new stem adapter threaded onto the rod end with the slot in the new adapter facing up as shown in the attached photographs.The minimum which shall be required shall be the fabrication and replacement of piston, piston seals and wear rings, rod gland with wiper, seal spacer, rod seals, cylinder gasket, and piston rod key, as indicated on As Built. If the chrome is damaged on the piston rod, it shall be removed and re-chromed. The cylinder wall shall be honed to match the rod. Maximum of 0.003? stock removal of tube during cylinder honing. Replacement piston seals and wear rings, rod seals, gaskets, and rod wiper shall be equal to Chesterton products and shall be compatible with the existing grooves and cavities where fitment is required to existing components. The Contractor shall install metal nameplate with the following cylinder information: ?RCB Miter Gate Rehab Date _______. Repaired by: (Name of Machine Shop?. Use month and year in the following format: MM, YYYY. This nameplate shall also have spacer dimensions listed on it. Seals shall be Chesterton products. The rod seals shall be Chesterton Type 11K 800/800 split stacked set V-Ring seals.After disassembly of the cylinder, the Contractor shall furnish the Government a list of any/all additional recommended repairs based on condition of the cylinder components in addition to the repairs outlined in this work scope and the cost thereof prior to commencing with any additional repair. A contract modification will be issued to cover the cost of any additional repairs. The Government reserves the right to inspect the work at any time.Submission Requirements:?
