    Description

Crofts Hall, named in honor of George D. Crofts for his more than 50 years of service to the University as both a professor and Chief Financial Officer, is a four-story building with a basement totaling approximately 79,000 square feet. The facility, which features a glass exterior, currently serves as the headquarters for the University’s business operations. While the upper floors remain fully occupied, portions of the lower levels—particularly the first floor—are underutilized. The basement and first floor include a mix of office, support, and shared spaces, but both levels require upgrades to meet current building code and accessibility standards. Notably, the first floor lacks a compliant means of egress, and various building systems and finishes across these levels are outdated. The basement also includes a shared breakroom and building support areas that will be part of the overall improvement effort. This project is focused on bringing the basement and first floor into full code compliance while enhancing functionality and usability. Key components of the work include installation of fire protection systems, life safety upgrades, ADA accessibility improvements, and renovations to nine restroom facilities throughout the building. Additional scope includes upgrades to ceilings, lighting, select finishes, and evaluation of HVAC systems and elevators to ensure compliance with current standards. Upon completion, these improvements will allow the University to safely repurpose currently vacant or underutilized areas as swing space to support future campus projects, improving operational flexibility and long-term space planning.
