School Based Health Centers are medical health centers within the schools. They help students manage their illnesses during the school day. Because of the location, School Based Health Center are an easy health care option for busy students with busy parents who cannot always make it to their doctor's office. School-Based Health Centers have been providing primary care to students in NYC schools for over 30 years. It's been proven that School-Based Health Centers lower school absences and parents' time away from work. They also lower the chance of an emergency room or hospital visit. If a child has a chronic illness, or suddenly gets sick, a School- Based Health Center at their school can assist the child with needed care. Through this procurement, DOHMH is seeking appropriately qualified vendors to provide comprehensive primary preventive care including ageappropriate reproductive health care services, and mental health services to students at SBHC in select NYC public schools. The vendors selected through this procurement will establish and operate comprehensive school-based health center(s) (SBHC) that provides primary and preventive care including ageappropriate reproductive health care, acute or first contact care, chronic caremental health, and referrals as needed. Mental health services must be provided on-site and must include mental health assessments, crisis intervention, counseling, and referrals to a treatment continuum of supportive services including emergency psychiatric care, community-based support programs, and in-patient care. All services to students must be provided within the context of their family, social/emotional, cultural, physical and educational environment
