    Description

Greetings, The Department of Design and Construction is seeking a M/WBE vendor to provide special inspection services for the Queens Criminal Courthouse Facade and Roof Restoration project (CO296RF). The vendor must be DOB certified to be eligible to bid in this solicitation. The purpose of this project is to restore all the facades and roofs to safe conditions in compliance with the Local Law 11/98 façade inspection safety program. Currently, the building is in a state of disrepair. The entire roof has aged poorly and needs to be replaced, work includes roofing system, roofing membrane, roof drains, broken and non-code compliant roof railings, reconstructing and repointing a large section of masonry roof parapets and associated roof flashing, securing loose parapet stone coping, and repointing parapets in order to provide a watertight envelope capable of withstanding the elements for years to come. Mechanical equipment on the roof has deteriorated and needs to be either restored or replaced. The façade is deteriorated, stone panels must be replaced, stabilized, and reinforced, and the building needs to be waterproofed. The facades are comprised of limestone panels, brick, and curtain wall. Bulkhead on the main roof will be restored, including structural steel; doors and windows will be replaced. In addition, work includes some restoration of windows and adjunct openings. Missing stone panels on the front entrance and the façade of the courthouse need to be replaced as part of the project.During the initial site surveys and in-depth investigation of the site conditions, (the last cycle 7 report by Superstructures was dated 2014) increased deterioration was discovered at the façade and roof of the building. Due to additional deterioration since the last survey report, it was recommended to replace the entire roofing system and to remove and reinstall the parapet walls to prevent water infiltration into the building. The consultant identified and recommended additional scope of work necessary and required to restore the roofing system and the exterior envelope of the Queens Criminal Courthouse to a structurally sound, waterproof, and esthetically acceptable condition. Also, the existing roof top mechanical equipment was determined to be beyond its useful life and will be removed and replaced. Additional design funds are requested due to increased scope of work. Special Inspections will be required for the work as described above. Therefore, we are requesting a special inspections vendor for this project.
