    Description

The University is requesting Proposals to provide Design Services for exterior bowl and envelope repair at the Civil Engineering Building, located on the east bank of the Twin Cities campus. Refer to the Request for Proposal documents (found in the Attachments tab) for full project details/requirements. Respondents are prohibited from contacting the identified department about this RFP while in process. Before submitting questions about the RFP via the Questions Tab, read and review the RFX INSTRUCTIONS, REQUIREMENTS, AND RIGHTS RESERVED BY THE UNIVERSITY DOCUMENT and ALL Attributes in the Attributes Tab. These provide valuable information and address frequently asked questions. Potential Respondents and/or Subcontractors are encouraged to register themselves on the Supplier Matchmaking Google Form. Once registered, the list of interested Respondents / Subcontractors for this RFP can be viewed on the Supplier Matchmaking List. Note: None of the information on the Supplier Matchmaking List has been validated by the University. It is YOUR responsibility to reach out to the suppliers/contacts noted on the list and confirm their information prior to considering a potential partnership. You may also consider reaching out to the Office of Supplier Diversity. Remember to submit your response, including attachments, early to allow time to correct errors. The submission deadline is a hard close. The system will reject responses with errors and will NOT allow late submissions. --- Q&A --- Q1: The RFP requested a full assessment of the building envelope including windows and roofing on the structures lab. If the full assessment identifies items that needed replacement, will the design and construction phase services for the additional scope be part of contract amendment? A1: The scope for CD and Construction Admin should be considered to be replacement of the bowl and the adjacent waterproofing. CD drawings and construction for areas outside of this are unlikely to be funded and would be treated as an amendment to the contract if funding is available or critical work was found to be immediately needed. Submitted: 1/7/2026 09:55:33 AM (CT) Q2: For preparation of the design and construction phase services, please confirm the extent of the waterproofing replacement work ends at the beginning of the tunnel to Shepperd Lab and Rapson Hall. A2: Confirmed, waterproofing repairs will end where the tunnel meets the CE building. Site work on the bowl however should be considered to start at the upper edge of the bowl and inward towards the entrance to CE. Submitted: 1/7/2026 09:54:05 AM (CT) Q3: Please elaborate on the scope of work for the planters. A3: We expect planters will need to be removed in order to repair the underlying waterproofing. Expect a similar level of design for replacement but not necessarily the exact same layout. Submitted: 1/7/2026 09:53:23 AM (CT) Q4: If the University intends to use Schematic Design and Design Development as scoping phases to define the required repairs, is fee information for the Construction Documents, Bidding/Negotiation, and Construction Administration phases required at this time, given that the scale and scope of the project will not be fully defined until the completion of the Design Development phase? A4: Yes, the contract will be for all phases of the project through Construction Administration but work will only be authorized to proceed on a phase by phase basis. We will therefore need the associated costs for all phases. While the scope isn't fully defined at this point, we should assume a $3M project budget so the design fee should be in alignment with that amount of work. Submitted: 1/6/2026 07:33:53 AM (CT) Q5: We understand that documents from the original construction and repair and investigation history will be made available to the selected respondent. However, these documents will allow us to better understand the required scope, develop a responsive project work plan, and develop an appropriate fee. Will the University provide the project documents to all respondents prior to the RFP due date? A5: Addendum # 1 contains select sections and details showing typical as built conditions. Additional details could be provided if requested in order to provide a more complete response to the RFP. Submitted: 1/6/2026 07:32:32 AM (CT)
