AI Summary
Riverbanks Zoo & Garden seeks proposals for Phase Two of its Bridge to the Wild expansion, including new wildlife habitats, a riverfront restaurant, event spaces, and enhanced visitor engagement in South Carolina.
Since 2018, Riverbanks Zoo & Garden has advanced its long-term “Bridge to the Wild” master plan to
expand and enhance Riverbanks role as a premier destination for wildlife conservation, education, and
recreation in South Carolina. The initiative reimagines the guest experience through immersive habitats,
expanded public engagement opportunities, and stronger connections to nature, while increasing
Riverbanks’ tourism and economic impact across the Midlands and the state.
Phase One, launched in 2019, included the return of white rhinos after more than 30 years, a state-ofthe-
art Komodo dragon breeding facility, and a new education center overlooking the Saluda River,
establishing the foundation for future campus expansion.
Phase Two is a publicly and privately funded expansion along the West Columbia side of the Saluda
River corridor. Planned improvements include a new riverfront restaurant and event space with an
outdoor deck for daily use and special events, elevated pathways through immersive wildlife habitats,
new primate, red panda, vulture, and tiger exhibits, and public gathering spaces. The project also
incorporates the recently completed Saluda Skyride, creating an aerial connection between the east and
west sides of Riverbanks with panoramic views of the river and the broader Bridge to the Wild
experience.
SLED stands for State, Local, and Education. These are solicitations issued by state governments, counties, cities, school districts, utilities, and higher education institutions — as opposed to federal agencies.
