Callan and Meath Crossing Enhancements

The City of South San Francisco is soliciting informal bids for construction of crossing improvements at the intersection of Callan and Meath in South San Francisco. These improvements are intended to improve the crossing for all road users.

The work generally includes demolition of existing improvements as needed; grading and preparation of subgrade; installation of new curb ramps, pavement markings, and signs. All work will be constructed in accordance with the City of South San Francisco Construction Standards, Caltrans Standard Specifications, and applicable ADA requirements.

These improvements are localized, site-specific, and designed to be constructed efficiently with minimal disruption to adjacent properties. The City is seeking experienced paving and concrete contractors capable of delivering high-quality workmanship, coordinating work across multiple nearby locations, and completing construction in a safe, timely, and professional manner.

  The City of South San Francisco requests that your company submit an informal bid to perform the above-referenced work.

  The work consists of constructing crossing improvements at the intersection of Callan and Meath in South San Francisco. The Contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, tools, equipment, traffic control, and incidentals necessary to complete the work in a satisfactory and workmanlike manner, in accordance with the project scope and specifications.

  All materials provided and work performed shall conform to the City of South San Francisco Construction Standards, Caltrans Standard Specifications (latest edition), and all applicable ADA requirements. The City reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to waive minor irregularities in the bids received, as permitted by law.

  The Engineer’s Estimate for this work is approximately $30,000.

  The selected bidder will be required to enter into the City of South San Francisco’s Minor Construction Agreement (attached) as a condition of award, which will include an additional allowance item equal to 20% of the base bid for field directed changes. Work shall commence upon receipt of the City’s Notice to Proceed, which is anticipated to be issued within approximately 30 working days following bid acceptance.

  Payment will be made based on work satisfactorily completed and in place, consistent with the scope of work and as determined by the City Engineer or designee.

  A pre-bid site visit will not be held. Contractors are strongly encouraged to attend to familiarize themselves with site conditions and project constraints.

The bidder understands that meeting these requirements is a condition of award and execution of the City’s Minor Construction Agreement.

  Bidders are responsible for familiarizing themselves with the project site and surrounding conditions. Prior to submitting a bid, bidders shall satisfy themselves, through site review and any other means they deem appropriate, as to the nature of the work, site conditions, and all requirements necessary to complete the work. No allowance will be made after bid submission for any misunderstanding of the conditions, scope, or requirements of the work.

  Bidders are advised that certain potential additional work is described in the Special Conditions and is not included in the base bid.

  The Contractor shall be responsible for protecting existing utilities and facilities. Any damage to utilities resulting from the Contractor’s operations shall be repaired at the Contractor’s expense and to the satisfaction of the utility owner.

  All costs necessary to fully complete the work in accordance with the project documents, standards, and requirements shall be included in the bid price.
