    Description

    This Contract provides for modifications to the North Wastewater Treatment Plant digester basins, including the installation of sludge drying bed fill lines, digester decant lines, digester fill lines and the demolition of the sludge thickener basin equipment.  The Work shall include furnishing and installing all piping, valves, fittings, and appurtenances required for the sludge drying bed fill lines, digester decant lines, and digester fill lines, at the locations shown on the Plans. Work shall include, but is not limited to, ductile iron piping, restrained joints, valves, telescoping valves, supports, coatings, polywrap, excavation, embedment, backfill, surface restoration, connections to existing facilities, and all necessary appurtenances, complete in place and in strict accordance with the Plans and Specifications.  The work shall also include demolition of the existing sludge thickener basin equipment, including removal and disposal of sludge thickening equipment and associated hardware, walkways and appurtenances, vegetation and debris within the basin, coring of the exterior wall, and all associated work necessary to complete demolition, complete in place and in strict accordance with the Plans and Specifications.  The Work shall consist of the removal, handling, transportation, and disposal of sludge from the existing digester basins, including on-site relocation to the sludge drying beds with removal and disposal from sludge drying beds by City of Silsbee. The Contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, equipment, and incidentals necessary to complete sludge removal operations in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Sludge characteristics, including moisture content and consistency, are not guaranteed and may vary. The Contractor shall implement all necessary means and methods, including pre-bid site visits to verify sludge consistency, dewatering, liquifying, stabilization, containment, and/or handling required to facilitate removal, transportation, and disposal, at no additional cost to the Owner.  Supplemental Bid Item to remove and dispose of sludge from existing digester basins by transporting to an approved off-site disposal facility, including removal, handling, loading, hauling, testing, disposal fees, permits, and all associated labor, equipment, and incidentals, in accordance with all local, state, and federal regulations, all in strict accordance with the Plans and Specifications. The Supplemental Bid Item is in addition to the Base Bid Item for sludge removal (Base Bid Item No. 2).  The Contractor is responsible for the restoration of all disturbed surfaces, including pavement. All surfaces shall be returned to original condition or better.  SW-2 Prior to the start of construction, the Contractor shall submit a construction schedule to the engineer detailing his anticipated activities with estimated dates for the completion of each activity and section.  The Contractor shall be responsible for the startup and testing of each system embraced in this Contract. All systems shall be demonstrated to be functioning at design conditions prior to being considered complete. Where requested or required by the Engineer, the Contractor shall submit test data and certify in writing that the systems tested performed as required by the plans and specifications at design conditions.
