The City of Goleta is seeking a qualified consultant to execute a comprehensive City-Wide Canopy Analysis and Park and Open Space Landscape Design project aimed at advancing the sustainable stewardship of its urban forest. This project will integrate high-resolution geospatial data, including LiDAR and NAIP imagery, with socioeconomic indicators and climate models, to provide a data-driven foundation to inform short-term management goals and long-term planning. The project seeks to quantify the benefits of the city’s canopy, how canopy has changed over time or is expected to change, and identify where canopy is lacking. This project includes an emphasis on equity and should explore how canopy is distributed throughout the city and identify priority improvement projects. In addition, the project will include tree-focused landscape design guidance for all City parks and open spaces and 6–10 tree-focused, park-specific landscape designs for priority parks (to be identified by the city). To ensure granular accuracy, this analysis will dovetail with an ongoing tree inventory led by West Coast Arborists, blending individual tree data with broad canopy trends to identify management priorities and maintenance requirements. Furthermore, the project should incorporate student involvement in the landscape design portion, with student-led designs with professional guidance throughout the process.
