The Work under this Project consists of the construction of a new 5-ft.-wide sidewalk with pedestrian facilities along the south side of Poindexter Street at the I-464 overpass. The new sidewalk will connect on the west end to the existing sidewalk at the signal for the South Norfolk Jordan Bridge and will connect on the east end to the existing sidewalk at the intersection of Poindexter Street and Bainbridge Boulevard. This project will also include the installation of new pedestrian railing on the bridge over I-464 and the installation of new streetlights along the project limits.

Background

As part of the City's branding initiative, it is important to ensure major activity centers and thoroughfares are aesthetically pleasing and provide enhanced identification of City borders. This project will provide right-of-way and streetscape improvements for beautification to encourage community reinvestment.   Scope of Work for Poindexter Street Sidewalk

  1. Summary

  The City of Chesapeake, Virginia, is soliciting bids for the construction of a new sidewalk along Poindexter Street. The selected contractor will be responsible for construction, and completion of the sidewalk project in accordance with both local and federal standards.

  2. Detailed Specifications

  2.1 General Requirements

  1. Contractor must possess all necessary licenses and permits to operate in the City of Chesapeake.
  2. Material quality must meet or exceed the standards set forth by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
  3. All work must comply with local, state, and federal codes, regulations, and ordinances including accessibility standards as set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

  2.2 Sidewalk Specifications

  2. The contractor shall maintain a safe working environment, conforming to OSHA regulations to ensure the protection of workers and the public.

  4. Contractor shall be responsible for coordinating with local utility companies and obtaining all necessary utility locates prior to construction.
