AI Summary
RFP for demolition and rebuild of steam tunnel and electrical infrastructure improvements including new conduits and utility vaults at Iowa State University.
This project includes, but is not limited to, demolition and rebuild of up to 200 feet of existing steam tunnel, replacement of existing steam and condensate pipes, anchors, expansion joints, addition of new steam tunnel access with new reinforced concrete for better structural integrity, and installation of multiple sets of new underground high voltage conduits and two electrical utility vaults west of Beardshear Hall. The physical size of the tunnel will increase for the safety and reliability of the steam distribution system. A new exterior tunnel side chamber access will be added in a section of tunnel that is only accessible from inside Beardshear. Additionally, the project will install new conduits and vaults, allowing for the installation and routing of new high-voltage cable around the west and north sides of Beardshear Hall. The conduits will be upsized to allow for new increased cable capacity and for the raceways to be readily accessible, and cables more easily maintainable and replaceable. This will also remove the safety hazard of a 4160V cable inside the building, once the cable is installed in the new conduits routed around the building.
SLED stands for State, Local, and Education. These are solicitations issued by state governments, counties, cities, school districts, utilities, and higher education institutions — as opposed to federal agencies.
