    Description

The New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University is issuing this Request for Proposal from qualified suppliers to provide a custom wax flash out car kiln (electric) which will be an integral piece of equipment for our foundry at the Cohen National Casting Center. The Request for Proposal (RFP) is for a one-time purchase with the successful bidder receiving a Purchase Order to initiate this purchase once all evaluations and approvals are completed. Sculptures and patterns are first made of wax, then a mold in either resin bonded sand or ceramic shell is made around the wax to capture the form. The wax must be evacuated by melting it out in a kiln creating a void in the mold before molten metal is poured into it to create the cast metal object/sculpture. It is important to melt out wax from the resin bonded molds and the ceramic shell molds safely and quickly to prevent expansion and cracking of the mold. There will be a mandatory pre-bid conference via Zoom on Monday, June 1, 2026 at 1pm EDT. Please email rfp@alfred.edu prior to Thursday, May 28, 2026, 12pm EDT to request a link to the conference. Bidder Written Questions and Requests for Clarifications: All questions must be sumitted through the Bidnet platform (www.bidnetdirect.com) and arrive no later than the time and date indicated on the Summary Information Form, Page 1.
