CITY OF AMES, IOWA GENERATOR STEP-UP TRANSFORMER (GSU) FOR THE AMES MUNICIPAL ENERGY CENTER ELECTRIC SERVICES DEPARTMENT Notice is hereby given that sealed bids will be received for Generator Step-Up Transformer (GSU) for the Ames Municipal Energy Center in accordance with the plans and specifications now posted online at ames.bids.ionwave.net (AmesBids), and said bids shall be submitted electronically in AmesBids prior to 2:00 p.m. local time, on the 31st day of March, 2026. All bids received after the deadline for submission of bids as stated herein shall not be considered. Bidders are encouraged to create bids early with the required attachments. Contractor assumes all risk associated with submission of their bid. Complete digital bidding documents are available at amesbids.ionwave.net at no cost. Paper copies thereof may be obtained at the City Purchasing Division, Finance Department, by submitting a request to purchasing@cityofames.org. AmesBids is the only authorized source of bid forms. Bid forms obtained from any other source may have an incomplete set of documents. Bidders using a bid form not obtained from the City of Ames Purchasing Division are advised to contact the City of Ames Purchasing Division to provide a contact name and email address to enable receipt of necessary addenda. Reproduction of these documents without the express permission of the City of Ames is prohibited. All bids shall be submitted in AmesBids on or before the time set herein for the bid opening. Bids shall be made on the Bid Form furnished in AmesBids. The general nature of work being requested is design, manufacture, furnish, shop assemble, inspect, shop test, paint, prepare for shipping, preserve during shipment and storage at site, deliver F.O.B., unload, erect, install, oil fill, and field test one (1) 50/66/83 MVA, 69kV – 13.8kV transformer, complete with all accessories as hereinafter specified. The work shall include all necessary and/or usually supplied equipment and appurtenances for the safe, efficient, and convenient operation of the transformer within the scope. Work on this contract shall commence as soon as possible after award, with the final completion date to be agreed upon between Supplier and City. Should the Supplier fail to complete the work by the dates agreed upon for specific milestones, liquidated damages of $100 per day for the first 30 calendar days and $500 per calendar day thereafter for submittal of physical drawings, $500 per day for the first 45 calendar days and $3,360 per calendar day thereafter for final delivery of equipment and $500 per day for the first 30 calendar days and $3,360 per calendar day thereafter for failure of equipment to operate will be assessed for work not completed within the designated contract milestones. Written questions will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. local time on March 17, 2026. Said questions may be submitted to amesbids.ionwave.net or emailed to amanda.moore@cityofames.org. The City of Ames reserves the right to defer acceptance of any bid for a period not to exceed sixty (60) days after receipt of bids, and no bid may be withdrawn during this period. The City’s electric utility is considered a private entity for sales tax purposes. This project is considered to be new construction, alteration, expansion, or remodel per Iowa Code. Contractor shall pay sales, consumer, use, and similar State and local taxes for the Work or portions provided by Contractor which are legally enacted when bids are received. The Contractor is responsible to pay taxes on the materials and equipment that become a part of the real property and be included in the bid price. No sales tax exemption certificates will be issued for this project. The City does hereby reserve the right to reject any or all bids, to waive informalities, and to enter into such contract, or contracts, as it shall deem to be in the best interest of the City.
