    Description

School of Law of the City University of New York intends to purchase William S. Hein provides the following distinct services: Unique law-related online databases, for which they are the publisher and sole source online subscription platform and print titles listed below. Hein provides a suite of databases of historical legal material from federal, state and international jurisdictions that support the CUNY Law School program. These databases are essential for student and faculty research. Hein provides a suite of databases of historical legal material from federal, state and international jurisdictions that support the CUNY Law School program. These databases are essential for student and faculty research. The core HeinOnline package includes the Law Journal Library, which contains almost every American law review and journal, with most titles going back to volume one and all in PDF format. Access to original PDF format law journals is important for citation rules for legal scholarship including law reviews and court filings. HeinOnline is an online fully-searchable, image-based format. Other databases such as Westlaw Edge and Lexis Plus carry the current issues of most of these titles but they generally do not provide full runs and they do not provide them in PDF format. Other databases in this core collection include over 4,000 civil rights and social justice resources, classic historic monographs, world constitutions and literature, and full runs and all editions of basic United States legal resources such as the United States Code and other compilations of statutes, the Code of Federal Regulations, and the Federal Register. The collections contain legislative history material that we cannot obtain elsewhere online. We converted from microfiche to the much more usable online versions of resources, such as Bar Journals and New York Court of Appeals Records and Briefs. Our subscription to the New York Legal Research Library strengthens our collection of historical primary and secondary material for our state. The availability of many of these HeinOnline databases, especially the Law Journal Library, the Bar Journals, and the various U.S. government historical collections made it possible for us to discard substantial portions of our print and microform collections because of space restrictions and to make these resources more accessible to students and faculty.
