    Description

The City of Reading (City) is seeking bids/proposals from Radon Mitigation Contractors as further detailed throughout this RFQ inclusive of all tasks, deliverables and/or products required herein. If the City makes an award in connection with the proposal, Attachment L “Contract” and all terms and conditions of this RFQ as well as all documents incorporated therein shall form the entire agreement between the City and the successful Bidder.

    Background

The City of Reading is seeking proposals from Radon Mitigation Contractors to provide all labor and materials to perform radon mitigation installations and repair tasks as required. This is including, but not limited to, the installation and repairs of components related to radon mitigation systems and clearances for pre-qualified homes located within all City of Reading zip codes. The EPA estimates that about 1 in 15 homes (-7%) in the U.S. have elevated radon levels. This ranges from about 20% of homes in EPA highest risk radon zone (Zone 1) to about 2% of homes in the lowest risk zone (Zone 3). Many states have also developed radon maps for their states, which use more data than was available for the development of the EPA map in the early 1990's. The average cost of professional radon testing is about $140 for a single-family home with an average mitigation cost of $1,500.
