    Description

    To ensure a more resilient food supply chain, the State will fund the Farmers’ Market Resiliency Grant Program. Grant funds must be used to increase farmers’ markets’ resiliency. Examples of projects supported by this program include the development and enhancement of farmers’ market infrastructure, online infrastructure, marketing and outreach efforts, and/or delivery capabilities across the state. See examples of previously funded projects in the appendix. Important Definitions: For this grant program, farmers’ market resiliency is defined as: (1) a commitment to long-term market viability, sustainability, and accessibility; (2) the ability to recover from or adapt to changes and adversity in the farmers’ market environment and/or the local community. For the purposes of this grant, a Farmers’ Market is defined as any building, structure, or place, the property of a municipal corporation or under lease to or in the possession of a private or public agency, individual or business used or intended to be used by two or more producers for the direct sale of a diversity of farm and food products from producers to consumers and food buyers. "Producer" shall mean any person or persons who grow, produce, or cause to be grown or produced any farm or food products in New York state. “Farm and food products” shall mean any agricultural, horticultural, forest or other product of the soil or water, including but not limited to, fruits, vegetables, eggs, dairy products, meat and meat products, poultry and poultry products, fish and fish products, grain and grain products, honey, nuts, preserves, maple sap products, apple cider, fruit juice, wine, ornamental or vegetable plants, nursery products, flowers, firewood, and Christmas trees. · Eligible Applicants Include: · Registered Not-For-Profit Organizations · Local or Municipal Governments · Business Improvement Districts · Public Benefit Corporations · Indian Tribal Organizations · Public Educational Institutions · All applicants must operate -OR- directly support the operation of at least one New York State farmers’ market in an administrative capactiy -OR- demonstrate a history of work to support farmers’ market locations via resource sharing and development. Eligible farmers’ markets must have been in operation for at least (1) market season in 2024 or 2025 prior to application AND fulfill the farmers’ market definition in RFP Section 3A (page 5).
