    Description

Description of Intended Products or Services Provided:

The equipment and service includes a Lime Sludge Dewatering Belt Filter Press (Alfa Laval AS-H Belt Press - Winklepress) with associated items including Local Control Panel, Remote Control Panel, Inline (Non-clog) Variable Orifice Mixer, and polymer system. The belt filter press is responsible to remove water from the lime sludge that is transferred from the reactors to the lime sludge holding tank and then pumped to the belt filer press. As the lime sludge is sent through the press, a desired amount of water is removed and the remaining lime sludge is then dropped into a truck and disposed of off-site. The polymer is added to the lime sludge prior to reaching the belt filter press to make it easier to press the lime sludge.

    Background

The belt filter press is the primary disposal method in the lime softening process at the South County Regional Water Treatment Plant.

If the belt press equipment do not continue service, the County utility system will operate at a reduced level of service and reliability which may impact the health, safety and welfare of the citizens. It is imperative to continue to maintain and repair the equipment before failure and emergency measures would be required for public safety.
