NOTICE OF INTENT TO SINGLE SOURCE SKYBASE COMMUNICATIONS LLC

Description of Intended Products or Services Provided:

Skybase Communication provides satellite based phone communications with push-to-talk capability. Iridium phones use the push-to-talk feature to reduce the reliance on costly phone calls, instead team members can communicate to all the programed phones.

Skybase Communications is the sole supplier of the FloridaSatNet network, having exclusive emergency channels.  The primary channel is monitored by the Florida Watch Office.  With all the new access to satellite communications for the general public, it is important that those responding to an emergency can communicate on a network that will not get over-crowded by the public.  FloridaSatNet allows for these priority calls to work when needed.

Background

During an emergency, cell phone and radio towers may not be available or operable. Satellite communications may be the only medium to contact team members, other departments or State or Federal agencies. Service to the FloridaSatNet through Skybase Communications would be provided to Collier County Emergency Management (CCEM) via 6 Iridium phones programmed for the exclusive service and unlimited push-to-talk (PTT) use.
