This project includes repairs to two historically significant shelters in Ledges State Park near Boone, Iowa. Oakwood Shelter - The structure has shifted due to tree falling on the shelter. The entire log structure is to be disassembled. New column footings will be constructed and new log columns set on top. Log structure to be reassembled using original log components wherever possible. The existing roof and roof framing will be demolished and removed. A new log purlin roof will be constructed on the reassembled log framing structure. The stone chimney will need cleaning and repointing. Fireplace brick to be cleaned and repointed. Brick floor and concrete walkway need cleaning and sealing. Electrical conduits and receptacles to be rerouted and painted similar to existing. An ADA compliant concrete pad will be constructed to appropriately access the shelter's grill. Henning Shelter - Repairs to the shelters timber beams are needed at some bearing locations. Flashing is in need of repair at stone chimney and roof intersection. Realignment of log framing to be completed.
