    Description

The existing Legislative Hall building is located in Dover, Delaware. An assessment study and analysis of the existing building was completed in October, 2022, resulting in a recommendation to add programmatic space to meet the current and projected future requirements of Legislative Hall. The proposed building addition includes a new (4) story, 67,000 SF addition to Legislative Hall for a total new building area of 147,890 SF, with 20,000 SF of existing building renovation. The addition will be the new main entrance to Legislative Hall. The program of the addition includes public spaces such as meeting rooms, joint finance hear room, welcome center, press room, and cafeteria for the general public, security suite for Capitol Police, maintenance shop, loading dock, and storage rooms for Facility Maintenance, and offices, conferences rooms, employee break rooms for Legislators and Staff, and other miscellaneous support spaces. The renovation work includes connection between the existing and new building, as well as reconfiguration of rooms to support new layout for the Legislators and Staff. An overall goal of this project is to meet LEED Silver requirements, although OMB/DFM will likely not be seeking certification. Simultaneous to this selection process, an architectural/engineering firm has begun working on the Design phase of the project to include, amongst other tasks, space planning and programming, coordination of project requirements with the City of Dover, DelDOT, and DNREC, geotechnical investigation, coordination with environmental requirements, digital scanning of the existing building, documentation of historic features and requirements.
