AI Summary
City of Santa Barbara seeks a Landscape Architect to develop pre-approved sustainable landscape templates to comply with California AB 1572, including plant palettes, storm water BMPs, and irrigation design. Proposals due April 17, 2026.
The City is proactively developing a process to help property owners more easily, affordably, and quickly complete lawn replacement and landscape retrofit projects to comply with new statewide requirements under California AB 1572. AB 1572 prohibits the irrigation of nonfunctional turfgrass with potable water at commercial, institutional, and industrial properties. There are various timelines for compliance based on property type, but the majority of property owners will need to stop irrigating nonfunctional turfgrass by January 1, 2028. As part of this effort, the City would like to hire a Landscape Architect to develop a pre-approved list of plants and example palettes that will be reviewed and approved by the Historic Landmarks Commission and the Architectural Board of Review (Design Review Boards). This will include development of a Landscape Plan Template with standard details for relevant storm water BMPs and irrigation design, as well as design guidance for the end user. The City and Environmental Incentives (EI) will provide insights and example template documents for plans, and standard details created for other jurisdictions in Orange County and San Diego to guide development. Please see RFP for full project description and details. Estimated Bid Value: $20,000.00 Pre-Bid Meeting Information: Yes Online Q&A: Yes Location Information: Department: Purchasing Address: 310 E.
