    Description

The State University Construction Fund (SUCF) is seeking Statements of Qualifications (SOQs) from consultants to provide design and construction administration services for the Renovate Biology Building and LSRB and Construct Addition for RNA Institute project at the State University of New York at Albany. The Project will support the expansion of AI-powered health and biological research in Ribonucleic Acid (RNA) to position UAlbany and SUNY as a leader in STEM research, training and workforce development. Expanded research laboratories, office, instructional spaces, and a biotech incubator will allow SUNY researchers, under the leadership of the RNA Institute, to enhance collaborations with UAlbany’s growing AI+ and integrated health sciences faculty. The Project constructs a new facility and renovates a portion of the adjacent Biology Building. The Biology Building is a three-story, with a basement level, 118,000 GSF building constructed in 1966. The Project will construct a new, approximately 20,000 GSF, two-story facility in the proximity of the Life Sciences Research Building (LSRB) to house the expansion of the existing RNA Institute (which is located in the LSRB). The Project will also renovate approximately 5,000 GSF of existing laboratory space in the basement of the adjacent Biology Building to provide additional capacity for RNA research. The laboratory space in the basement of the Biology Building is in poor condition and does not meet modern research standards needed to supplement and support the objectives of the RNA institute expansion. The Project also includes the removal of hazardous materials and will provide upgrades to meet current code and ADA requirements. The available total project budget coupled with the extent of renovation in the Biology Building will determine the new building’s final square footage and programmatic elements. This may result in a new building, either larger or smaller than identified above. The construction value is estimated to be approximately $27,811,000.
