    Design, Fabrication, and Installation of Reptile, Amphibian, and Fish Building Exhibit Tanks, and Life Support Systems at Trailside Museums and Zoo, Bear Mountain, NY 10911 *Download and review all documents related to this RFP. The Detiled Project Description is located in the RFP Information attachment* Project Overview The Reptile, Amphibian, and Fish building (approximately 600 square feet) at Trailside Zoo is undergoing a large-scale renovation. This renovation includes the installation of 23 new custom tanks, associated Life Support Systems (LSS), and necessary tank racks. A detailed project description can be found on page 5. Structural and infrastructure repairs are in process and expected to be completed prior to tank installation. Project Goals The purpose of this project is to improve animal welfare and animal husbandry, increase public engagement, and allow Trailside Zoo to exhibit species not currently on display. Meeting the purpose and goal of the project requires installation of quality exhibits that are designed in consideration of building limitations, species specific needs, and ease of husbandry. The zoo will exhibit at least 28 different species of fish, amphibians, and reptiles. RFP Deadlines The following timetable is established for this RFP. This schedule is subject to change in the sole discretion of the Commission. All changes will be made through the issuance of Addenda to this RFP: Scope of Work Trailside Zoo requires a qualified company to design, build, and install zoo/aquarium tanks, life support systems (LSS), and dynamic tankscaping to represent the specific habitats of the Hudson Valley in which the displayed animals would live in the wild. Trailside Zoo requires a vendor to: 1.) Design 23 tanks, LSS, tankscaping, and create construction documents that depict necessary mechanical connections; 2.) Fabricate tanks using specified materials, meeting necessary husbandry requirements and animal welfare needs, conforming to building codes, and considering visitor safety; 3.) Fabricate and install LSS adequate to support the aquatic and semi-aquatic habitats with specific commercial grade, warrantied components; 4.) Install tanks and life support systems and required electrical and plumbing connections, and; 5.) Demonstrate the functions of the systems and guarantee the work for 2- 5 years, depending on the individual pieces of equipment and as specified in this document. Outreach: Posted to NYSCR Site Visit: Non-Mandatory, strongly encouraged: RSVP by Friday, June 12th for site visit on Monday, June 15th at 2:00PM Request for Information (RFI) Deadline: Questions received no later than Wednesday, June 24th and responses from PIPC by Monday, June 29th Deadline for Proposals: Thursday, July 9th at 12:00 PM Anticipated Award Date: TBD Labor Requirements · The Vendor shall comply with all applicable prevailing wage requirements in accordance with the laws of the State of New York and the New York State Department of Labor (DOL). The Contractor is responsible for paying all laborers, subcontractors, workers, and mechanics employed on the project not less than the applicable prevailing wage rates and supplemental benefits for the classifications of work performed. · The vendor’s managing staff will be a director or principal level staff person. Resumes of the project team and any subcontractors are required. · Some requirements related to the project manager, firm, and team include: § Coordinating and attending meetings, correspondence, and oversight during installation § Provide certified payroll reports that meet Department of Labor requirements before work begins, during the project, and upon completion of work. § Meeting with Trailside Zoo staff frequently to ensure effective progress. § Demonstrate sufficient experience among the manager and team to deliver a completed project as per the specifications outlined in this RFP. The firm will be required to provide a portfolio of similar work including examples of specialized or complex animal habitat construction. § Demonstrate familiarity with current technologies and concepts of aquatic, terrestrial, and semi-aquatic/ paludarium exhibit LSS. Build/Installation Requirements · Off-site fabrication · Shipping and delivery must be included in pricing · Tank construction will use fiberglass, acrylic, glass, or PVC as per specifications outlined in this RFP. · Public facing sides of the tanks will be at least 3mm thick tempered, laminated glass for optimal viewing and visitor safety. · Construction and assembly of any tank support racks or platforms. · On-site assembly, exhibit component installation, water testing, start up, and zoo staff training. · Clean up of all materials after completion of the project, including dumpster cost if needed. Design Requirements · Facilitate communication between the Zoo team and the vendor’s design team to meet animal welfare, code compliance, zookeeper safety, visitor experience, and other criteria, as needed. o Construction Documents will be completed to specifications required by the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation and will require input from OPRHP/PIPC maintenance staff, animal husbandry staff, engineers, and tradespeople. o Construction Documents should outline the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing needs for each tank, specify their positioning within the building, provide information on their installation on/within existing infrastructure, and detail interfaces with any LSS. o Construction Documents should also include any coordination for exhibit access, latches, screening, door, and/ or hood designs.
