On behalf of the New York State Commission on National and Community Service (the Commission), the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) seeks applicants for AmeriCorps New York FY 2026 Competitive grant funding. The Commission, established by an Executive Order of the Governor in 1994, is a governor-appointed body with representatives of business, labor, education, government, human services, and community-based organizations. The Commission administers programs funded by the National Community Service Trust Act of 1993, as amended by the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act of 2009, and it receives annual funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency also known as AmeriCorps. While independent, the Commission is hosted by OCFS, which provides critical administrative support for the Commission. However, OCFS is not responsible for reviewing applications beyond assessing minimum qualifications. Application review and funding recommendations to AmeriCorps, the federal agency, are managed by, and within the discretion of, the Commission. All final award determinations are made by AmeriCorps, which does not allow for appeals related to award decisions. This Request for Applications is for Competitive AmeriCorps funding only. This RFA's funding comes from annual AmeriCorps national service funding. The recommendations made by the Commission must be approved by AmeriCorps before grants may be awarded. The Commission will recommend funding a single organization or agency, or multiple organizations or agencies, to establish and administer an AmeriCorps program or programs. Applicants should only respond to this RFA if you are proposing an AmeriCorps program that will operate and provide service solely within the geographic borders of New York State. Applications with programming that will cross these borders should not respond to this RFA and should instead respond directly to the federal AmeriCorps agency (the Corporation for National and Community Service) for funding opportunities.
