RFP #26031 - Morton Theater Stage Access Renovation

The Morton Theatre currently relies on temporary stairs to connect the stage to the auditorium floor, which obstructs audience sightlines, reduces usable square footage in the orchestra pit, and compromises the historical aesthetic of the space. This project will replace the temporary stairs with a permanent structure built into the box seats. Additionally, there are small balconies directly above the access stairs that were identified as needing replacement.

Background

The Morton Theatre is owned by the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County, Georgia, and operated as a facility within the Leisure Services Department's Art Division. The Morton Theatre is located in downtown Athens and serves a diverse community across Clarke County and the broader northeast Georgia region. In 2025, ACCGov was awarded grant funds from the Fox Theatre Grant Program to redesign the proscenium.

Evaluation Criteria

• FIRM EXPERIENCE (25 pts) —

  Firm experience in providing services to public sector organizations, and specifically in historic theatres.

• QUALIFICATIONS (25 pts) —

  Qualifications of staff assigned to the contracts.

• UNDERSTANDING OF THE REQUIREMENT (25 pts) —

  Understanding of the requirement and the ability to follow engineering specifications.

• REFERENCES (10 pts) —

  References including applicable past work with the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County.

• CONTRACTOR FURNISHED EQUIPMENT (10 pts) —

  Contractor furnished equipment including adequacy and relevancy for the performance of the requirements of the contract.

• COST (10 pts) —

  Cost of work to be provided.
