    Description

    The Bridgeton Board of Education (BOE) is seeking proposals from qualified respondents to provide legal services for the 2026-2027 school year.  

     

    The Attorney chosen as a result of this RFP shall advise the BOE and Administration on all legal matters relating to the district including but not limited to matters relating to negotiating and drafting contracts, procurement law, employment law, mediation and arbitration. The chosen Attorney shall also advise on other matters as needed and shall be available for legal consultation on an as needed basis. 

     

    B.  SCOPE OF SERVICE 

    The services provided by the attorney shall include, but shall not be limited to the following: 

    • The Attorney shall provide legal counsel and advice to the BOE and Administration 
    • Timely advice and counsel on emergent matters. Counsel shall respond verbally, followed in writing, within twenty-four hours when an inquiry is made by the BOE or the Administration. 
    • Written legal opinions shall be provided upon request. 
    • At the direction of the BOE, initiate and/or defend lawsuits as necessary. 
    • Prepare all necessary legal documents. 
    • Attend all BOE meetings (regular and special action) and attend committee meetings at the request of the BOE or Administration. 
    • Represent the school district in all judicial and/or administrative proceedings within the specific service area in which the district or any of its BOE members, administrators, or agents may be a party or have an interest. 
    • Provide written, timely notification to the BOE of changes in school law or state regulations, including court and administrative decisions that may affect the operation of the school district. 
    • Upon request, conduct in-service programs on specified legal issues for appropriate staff members. 
    • The chosen Attorney at their expense shall attend school board trainings, school law conferences and workshops to stay abreast of statue revisions and updates that affect school law.
