    Description

Under the Laura Hershey Disability Support Act, as amended, C.R.S. § 8-88-200 et seq., the Colorado Disability Funding Committee (CDFC) "shall invite nonprofit entities to submit a proposal for a program to aid persons with disabilities in accessing disability benefits." Since its inception, the CDFC has devoted grant funding principally toward assisting non-profit organizations and county agencies that aid individuals and families with applications to obtain disability-based benefits. Thus, the CDFC, through grant-making, improves the lives of those persons living with disabilities. According to surveys and census analysis conducted by Disability Law Colorado, there are 80,000 Coloradans living with disabling conditions who receive no assistance from the Social Security Administration or their county social services departments. Additionally many people while unsuccessfully applying for disability, face insolvency, poverty, and bankruptcy.
