    Description

The work in this contract is for Water Line Improvements Phase 4 for San Leon Municipal Utility District located in San Leon, Texas. The purpose of this project is to replace and upsize aging water lines in the San Leon Municipal Utility District, including gate valves and fire hydrants, to prevent future water main breaks and provide better service to the affected areas.

In general, this work consists of:

    1. Installation of 2-inch, 6-inch, and 10-inch AWWA C-900 water line, by trenchless construction, for all depths, including tracer wire, restrained joints, bends, fittings, open left gate valves with boxes, and fire hydrant assemblies. Disinfection and hydrostatic testing shall be completed by the Contractor. Contractor shall install valve extensions for valves deeper than 5 feet.
    2. Installation of minimum 12-inch and 18-inch steel casing, by trenchless construction, including fittings. Contractor shall ensure proposed water line with restrained joints and spacers has the needed clearance for installation inside the proposed steel casing.
    3. Connection of the new water lines to the existing water system by tapping sleeve and valves and wet connections.
    4. Line stop valves are to be used as directed by Engineer to minimize water service disruption in the event certain line segments prove difficult to isolate due to existing valve placement or existing valves being faulty.
    5. Installation and connection of new long-side and short-side service leads, all diameters, from new water line to existing residential water meters or existing irrigation meters using tapping saddle with stainless steel band, including corporation valves and ball valve curb stops, with standard compression fittings at the meter connection. Service lines for all meters smaller than 1-inch shall be a single 1-inch service line with a standard compression fitting. Service lines for water meters 1-inch and larger shall be a single line that matches meter size for each meter. No 90-degree curb stops will be allowed. No U-Branches will be allowed. It will be the Contractor’s responsibility to ensure that all meters are reconnected to the new water line.
    6. Abandonment of existing water lines, all sizes, all depths, including cutting, draining, plugging, and grouting the existing water line as shown in the plans.
    7. Relocating and connecting existing fire hydrant assemblies and plugging the old fire hydrant connection on the existing line.
    8. Site restoration of disturbed areas includes replacing damaged sidewalks, ramps, driveways, pavement, turf, plants, shrubs, trees, irrigation lines, fences, and gates.
    9. Implementation, maintenance, and removal of traffic control plan, trench safety, and storm water pollution prevention plan best practices including inlet protection barriers.
