    Description

Summit County Lands and Natural Resources is seeking a qualified contractor to rehabilitate the existing rail car bridge that crosses East Canyon Creek near Big Bear Hollow, along East Canyon Road for public recreational pedestrian access and occasional emergency egress. There will be a MANDATORY site visit on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 from 9:00AM - 11:00AM. You must RSVP 24 hours in advance for the meeting. Key elements of the rehabilitation include the following items and others as listed on the construction documents, Exhibit B. Items that must be addressed by the contractor in the proposal include but are not limited to railing upgrades, bridge deck replacement, bearing seat upgrades, abutment upgrades, welding of railings and gates, vehicle approach modifications, abutment protection and installation of associated signage, and description of recommended ongoing maintenance schedule, and anticipated/warrantied lifespan of end product. The bridge is intended for future public pedestrian access to the nearby trails and amenities in the area. Creating an access route for occasional Type 3 Engine wildland fire trucks is also a key objective for the bridge in the case of an emergency. The design as shown in the construction documents, Exhibit B, prepared by Ensign Engineering (Project No. 14503A) accomplishes these objectives and rehabilitates the bridge.
