The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has allowed the use of PG 64-22 rather than restricting to their own recognized PG 67-22 for more than a decade. Would the engineer consider the use of PG 64-22 which is recognized by ASTM D6373? Answer: Answered in Addendum 1 03/17/2026 09:54 AM EDT 03/31/2026 04:59 PM EDT - Q4 Arrow Right Question: Asphalt Design Criteria Table 1. Asphalt Design Criteria – Both the Asphalt Pavement Analyzer (APA) and the Hamburg Wheel-Track Test are listed. In the notes of Guide Specifications AC 150/5370-10H, regarding the Hamburg it states, “If APA is not available in an area, compacted mix design samples may be sent to a laboratory that has an APA or the Hamburg wheel test (AASHTO T 324) 10mm @ 20,000 passes at 50°C may be used with FAA approval of ADO.” GDOT no longer utilizes the APA for rut testing and has moved to the Hamburg test. As such, the APA is not readily available in Georgia. Further the intent of the note was to allow for either one test or the other for rut testing. With these issues in mind, we would like to request that only the Hamburg Wheel-Track Test be required and that the APA requirement be removed from Table 1.
