    Description

Through this Request for Proposals (RFP), the Town of Schroon seeks to retain the professional services of a qualified planning consultant to work with the local Zoning Advisory Committee to prepare a rewrite of the existing zoning ordinance and land use development regulations. The project is being funded by a 2025 Adirondack Community Smart Growth Program Round 8 Grant from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The Town of Schroon Zoning Ordinance was adopted in 1971 and the Land Subdivision Regulations were adopted in 1972. The zoning ordinance has since been amended eight times to address changing conditions. The Town’s 1977 Comprehensive Plan was recently updated through a community-driven planning process, and was formally adopted in 2025. The updated Schroon Comprehensive Plan provides a framework for achieving a community vision that is reflective of the current conditions. A priority recommendation of the updated Comprehensive Plan is to rewrite the Town zoning ordinance as a unified zoning and development code that would combine all regulations related to planning, zoning and building in the Town, including SEQR, Unsafe Buildings, Subdivision Rules and Regulations, and Short-Term Rentals.
