The Village of Canton, NY (Village) is seeking proposals from qualified firms (Consultant) to design and oversee construction of amenities to the Village Green. The Village Green, located in the heart of the downtown, is the central gathering space within the Village. The park is currently used for a variety of community activities including a seasonal farmers market and yoga, and provides open lawn areas, walking paths, and some seating, but upgrades to amenities and spaces could expand potential users throughout the day, and across seasons. This project aims to renovate existing spaces and expand amenities to support existing and future programs within the Village Green. The proposed upgrades include improved pathways, lighting, and additional seating areas. The upgrades may also include expanded planting with a variety of perennials and low shrubs, which will support pollinator habitats and soften the park’s edges without compromising its historic character. These enhancements aim to create a welcoming environment for community events, gatherings, and everyday use and will contribute to a more vibrant, walkable downtown. The property owner of the Village Green is the First Presbyterian Church. The Church has expressed support for the project and has entered into an agreement with the Village of Canton to allow them to make improvements within the Green.
