Invitation for Bids Town of Mendon, VT TH#9 – Woodward Rd. Dry Hydrant Installation The Town of Mendon is seeking bids from qualified contractors for an installation of a new Dry Hydrant system. This project is located on Woodward Rd. The current Dry Hydrant on Woodward Rd. has been tested for outflow and determined to be ineffectual for the City of Rutland Fire Department to load their pumper truck. Therefore, in conjunction with Troy Dare from Rural Fire Protection, Zapata Courage from the State of Vermont, City of Rutland Fire Chief Bill Lovett, and the Town of Mendon, the decision has been made to remove the current dry hydrant system and replace it with a new design. The project has been designed by Troy Dare. The first phase of the project is the excavation and removal of the current dry hydrant system. The second phase of the project is the excavation of 120 ft. of trench to bury the 8 in. Schedule 80 PVC pipe at the same depth as the sunken 40 ft. of 8 in. Schedule 80 in the pond. This trench will be centered through the property to the pond, and inset on the property at a depth of 20 ft. Where the 6” Female NH Adapter w/ 90-degree extends out of the ground, the width of the pull in will be 25’. The road frontage at the entrance is 58’. The required materials of the project are as listed. 1 – 6” Female NH Adapter w/ 90-degree elbow 40’ – 6” Schedule 80 PVC pipe 2 – 8” x 6” Schedule 40 PVC Reducer Bushing 1 – 8” Schedule 40 PVC 90-degree Elbow 160’ – 8” Schedule 80 PVC pipe 8 – 8” PVC Coupling 1 – 8” Horizontal Strainer w/ Backflush 1 – 55gal. Barrel w/ Plugs Traffic Control must be in accordance with the 2009 MUTCD. The road must maintain access during construction. Bidder agrees to start work under this contract after the Notice to Proceed has been issued and that the Final Completion of the construction project is October 2nd, 2026. A mandatory site visit will be conducted at 10:00am on March 10th, 2026, with Mendon Road Commissioner, Chirs Baird. Please meet at the project location on Woodward Road parking in the pull off.
