    Description

The U.S. Geological Survey, Radiogenic Isotopes Laboratory in Reston, VA intends to award a noncompetitive purchase order to Spectromat Massenspektrometer GMBH (Spectromat) of Bremen, Germany for a 1013 Ohm Amplifiers to be delivered to Reston, VA within 184 days from the date the contractor receives the purchase order.

    There are no option periods.

The 1013 Ohm Amplifiers proposed for the IT-Box Mass Spectrometer system at USGS are proprietary products of Spectromat Massenspektrometer GMBH. The amplifier housing in the existing TI-Box system is specifically designed to accommodate only Spectromat amplifiers, which rely on calibrated and aligned U/V converters. These converters transform the amplifier's electrical signals into optical signals for transmission to the TI-Box¿s proprietary data acquisition system. All components-amplifiers, U/V converters, data acquisition system, and software-must work in precise alignment to ensure proper calibration and functionality. The use of 1013 Ohm resistors in these amplifiers significantly enhances sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio. While higher resistance increases noise, the gain in sensitivity is greater, allowing the system to detect weaker signals more reliably. This improvement is critical for achieving high-precision isotopic ratio measurements, which are essential in USGS research areas such as geology, geochemistry, and materials science.
