    PROJECT NAME: AZ NFSR 289 BRIDGE REPLACEMENT

    PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  The project is located in the Tonto National Forest approximately 18 miles East of Payson, AZ. The existing Tonto Creek Bridge (no. 031204000003356) was built in 1956 and is a single lane, concrete slab bridge. NFSR 289 is a two-lane roadway that accesses several residential homes, a fish hatchery, and a summer camp along with many recreational sites and trailheads. The purpose of this project is to replace the existing Tonto Creek Bridge, expand the Horton Springs Parking Lot and improve pedestrian and vehicular safety and access to the recreation sites around the Tonto Creek Bridge on NFSR 289.

    SCOPE OF THE WORK:  The scope of the project includes reconstructing a portion of FR 289, removing the existing bridge and constructing a new single-span bridge over Tonto Creek including new sidewalk and reconstruction of the Horton Springs Parking Lot.  This project includes removal of the existing two-span bridge, including removal of the existing pier.  The project also includes channel grading in Tonto Creek.  The new roadway and bridge will be constructed East of the existing alignment (upstream of the existing bridge) to minimize impacts to public traffic.
