The Moving Image Section of the National Audio Conservation Center (NAVCC) operates a Film Lab that utilizes photochemical processing machines to chemically develop film that serve as preservation copies of films that in time will degrade. The Film Lab fulfills this through photochemical and digital preservation of motion picture film, videotape, and digital collection items. One of the byproducts of photochemical processing is silver. Silver can be hazardous and as such is captured in the film labs silver recovery system to be harvested and sent for refinement. The film lab requires contractor support to service the plumbing components in the photochemical processing lab at NAVCC.
