The Department of Army, RIA-JMTC is conducting market research to identify qualified sources capable of providing precision gear cutting and manufacturing services. This Request for Sources Sought (RFS) is issued for informational purposes only and does not constitute a Request for Proposal (RFP) or a promise to issue an RFP in the future. The information received will be used to assess the availability of qualified vendors and to develop a future acquisition strategy. This RFS supports the manufacturing of self-propelled artillery. 2. SCOPE OF WORK The Department of Army, RIA-JMTC anticipates a requirement for the manufacturing of two precision gears. The following capabilities are of interest: Gear Types: bevel gears and splines. Materials: Steel alloy (4140) Gear Sizes: Gears ranging in diameter from 0.5 inches to 24 inches. Precision Requirements: Tight tolerances (±0.005” or better) may be required on certain features. Manufacturing Processes: CNC gear hobbing, gear grinding, shaping, and milling. Drawing Requirements: IAW 10923030 note 9 and note 10, IAW 10953662 note 7, note 8, and note 9. 10953662 Gear, shaft, bevel shall be cut in accordance with drawing notes 7, 8, and 9. Vendor will create features on both the top spline and the gear at the end per drawing 10953662. 10923030 Gear shaft, bevel shall be cut in accordance with drawing notes 9 and 10 per drawing 10923030. Vendor will create features of gear IAW drawing 10923030. Conformity to drawing requirements is essential.
