NYSDOT seeks bids for high-resolution bridge deck imaging and crack detection services across multiple bridges in New York. Deliverables include detailed crack mapping, density analysis, and scaled drawings compatible with MicroStation CADD. Payment is per square foot scanned. Proposals due July 6, 2026.
We are requesting bids for high-resolution imagery scanning at legal speeds without lane or rolling closures to identify and quantify, through automated post processing, the location and size of surface cracks of the top side of concrete bridge decks. The scans shall be capable of identifying cracks in concrete decks with a minimum width of 5 mils (0.005 inches). The delivered items shall include: · A plan drawing identifying deck cracks atop a photo layer of the deck. The drawing shall be compatible for import into MicroStation CADD software and shall be accurately scaled. The drawing shall classify by color the crack widths as o hairline (less than 10 mils), o narrow (10 to 20 mils), o medium (20 to 60 mils), o large (60 to 125 mils), and o wide (greater than125 mils). · Tabularization of crack width densities. Crack density is defined as the total crack length divided by total deck area (ft/ft2). Table must also include cumulative crack length (ft.) The table must be categorized by as hairline, narrow, medium, large, and wide, corresponding to the widths defined previously. · A drawing of the local crack densities on deck area must be provided. The deck is to be divided into block areas of 2’ x 2’ and local densities must be calculated per block area. The local density is to be calculated by length of cracks multiplied by width of cracks, divided by block area (ft*in/ft2). The drawing must be accurately scaled with length and width of deck scaled in feet. Drawing must have begin and end of bridge deck labeled and must be submitted as a PDF. The block areas shall be color coded and shall be defined by the following local density ranges: o Low (less 0.001 (ft*in/ft2)) – block area color coded blue o Moderate (0.001 to 0.0022 (ft*in/ft2)) – block area color coded yellow o Heavy (0.0022 to 0.0037 (ft*in/ft2)) – block area color coded orange o Severe (greater than 0.0037 (ft*in/ft2)) – block area color coded red Bidders shall submit documentation demonstrating successful completion of at least one comparable bridge deck crack mapping project utilizing the proposed technology, including sample deliverables or references. The Owner reserves the right to determine whether the submitted documentation adequately demonstrates the bidder's capability. The following table contains the bridges to be scanned. Approximately 40,570 square feet of deck is to be scanned. BIN County Feature Carried Feature Crossed Bridge Length (ft.) Curb-to-Curb Width (ft.)
