The primary goal of this proposed project is the cost-effective preservation and ongoing maintenance of the Benicia Southern Pacific Railroad Passenger Depot (Train Depot). This building is an important part of Benicia's history and local culture. The Train Depot was built in 1897, moved to Benicia in 1902 and remained in service as a Train Depot until 1930. The Train Depot is part of the Historical Registry. The Depot is currently in use and occupied by Main Street Benicia.

Founded in 1987, Benicia Main Street leads the effort to revitalize and maintain our city’s historic downtown as a vibrant destination for residents and visitors. The ten-block district features unique shops, restaurants, art galleries, and waterfront views, while the Visitor Center at the Southern Pacific Depot offers maps, local merchandise, and See’s Candies year-round.
