    The purpose of the project is to improve ADA accessibility for visitors to the Heard Community Center by upgrading the parking lot, stairs leading to the building and to the plaza area between the main building and pool.

    Background

    The Heard Park facility (formerly East Athens Community Center) is located at 400 McKinley Drive and is equipped with a gymnasium, full-service kitchen, a multi-purpose room, a library and arts & crafts room. Also on the property include outside basketball courts, playground, pool, picnic pavilion, and ballfields. The existing stairs leading to the main building and pool area are not ADA-compliant and are in need of updates. The main asphalt parking lot and the concrete plaza connection are also not ADA-compliant.
