    Description

The North Attleborough School District invites sealed bids from qualified contractors for the furnishing and installation of a new steam boiler system at the Community Elementary School. The project includes removal of existing equipment, installation of a Weil McLain 13-section steam boiler with Massachusetts-compliant safety controls, integration of the existing Webster oil-fired burner, all necessary piping, valves, fittings, electrical work, rigging, and commissioning. Alternates should include a dual fuel system (gas/oil)

    Background

The existing boiler has reached the end of its service life and has been permanently disconnected and locked down due to excessive degradation that rendered it beyond repair. This unit was one of two identical boilers responsible for heating the school. At present, the facility is operating solely on the remaining boiler, which places the entire heating system at risk of failure should any issues arise with the single functioning unit. For this reason, replacement of the failed components within this boiler is necessary to ensure reliable heat delivery, occupant comfort, and uninterrupted school operations during the 2026-27 winter season.

The successful bidder must recognize the critical nature of this project. Work must be executed in a timely manner with zero interruptions to school operations,. Contractors are expected to provide adequate staffing, equipment, and scheduling resources to meet start and completing date of June 29th through August 28these requirements.

This project comes with unique logistical challenges. The boiler is located in a recessed mechanical room, requiring careful planning for both removal and installation. The existing boiler consists of 13 sections, each weighing approximately 800–900 pounds, which must be safely dismantled, removed, and appropriately disposed of. Delivery and installation of the new boiler sections will require precision rigging, adherence to safety protocols, and coordination with district representatives to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards.

The School District expects the successful bidder to:

    • Demonstrate proven experience with large-scale boiler installations and rigging in confined spaces.

    • Provide a detailed project plan outlining removal, delivery, installation, and commissioning steps.

    • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with Massachusetts safety and building codes.

    • Maintain clear communication with district officials throughout the project.

    • Remove and properly dispose of old equipment and materials from mechanical room.

    • Deliver a fully operational boiler system that has been tested, commissioned, and verified for safe and efficient performance.

    • Provide an alternate for dual fuel system on gas and oil
    • Site Visit is not mandatory, but recommended for the successful bidder (April 8, 2026 at 3:00PM)
