    Background

    The Sugar Land Regional Airport is the fourth largest airport in the greater Houston area and the foremost general reliever airport in the southwest sector. More than 100 Fortune 500 companies utilize the airport annually. The Airport’s focus is corporate aviation while maintaining a balance for the community’s general aviation needs. The Airport is home to the award-winning GlobalSelect Fixed Base Operator. As the “Luxury Gateway to Houston,” GlobalSelect (owned and operated by the Airport) is highly rated by its users for world-class service, passenger and pilot amenities, and facilities.

    Amenities at SGR include a 20,000 SQFT corporate aviation terminal, an Air Traffic Control Tower and radar system; a reinforced concrete runway measuring 8,000’ long and 100’ wide, capable of accommodating the largest of the corporate-type business jets; and an instrument landing system with high-intensity lighting; as well as: aircraft repair and avionics sales, flight training, and on-site rental car options.

    A: Thank you for the inquiry. This is a Contractor Engagement Workshop with the intent of providing prospective bidders, contractors specializing in asphalt paving and airfield electric, and material suppliers with general information on the project. The information discussed will include construction phasing, staging areas, construction materials and construction processes. It is currently anticipated that the project will be bid in the summer of 2026, with construction commencing in January 2027.
