    Description

East Hempfield Township, in collaboration with the Hempfield Rec Center and Four Seasons Golf Course, is proposing streambank restoration and stabilization along approximately 2,675 LF of the UNT to the Swarr Run on the Four Seasons and Hempfield Rec Center Properties. Bank stabilization will be achieved through bank grading and establishment of native vegetation, minor channel shifts, and will serve to prevent future bank erosion. Grading a low floodplain bench in key locations along the stream reach will allow increased stream flows to access the floodplain and provide a buffer between the banks and the stream, dissipating potentially erosive energy and allowing sediment carried from upstream to deposit on-site. Brush toe stabilization along the toe of the channel as well as cross vanes in the stream channel itself will provide in-stream enhancements for fish and wildlife. Native plantings, as well as the addition of 2 rain gardens along the edge of the proposed floodplain will also serve to improve water quality.
