A. Scope of Work
The San Francisco International Airport is exploring solutions to address aircraft apron lighting at a large remain overnight (RON) parking pad.
What we need: Expertise in innovative industrial lighting solutions for a commercial aircraft apron area of approximately 55 acres, designed to accommodate multiple aircraft types (widebody and narrowbody). The lighting solution should:
Lighting Locations and Tasks | Horizontal Illuminance (lux [fc]-average) | Vertical Illuminance (lux [fc]-average) | Uniformity ratio (average to minimum) |
Aircraft Parked Position | 20 lux (2 fc) | 20 lux (2 fc)* | 4:1 |
Aircraft Service Area | 50% of average illuminance on the aircraft parked position | NA | 5:1 |
Mechanical Checks, Maintenance and Repair | 20 lux (2 fc) | 20 lux (2 fc)* | 4:1 |
Fueling Operations | 20 lux (2 fc) | 20 lux (2 fc)* | 4:1 |
Ground Service Equipment (GSE) Areas | 20 lux (2 fc) |
| 4:1 |
*Vertical Measurement at 2m (6.6 ft) above the apron in the relevant direction (no uniformity ratio).
The Airport is specifically interested in innovative lighting solutions, using directional lighting technology, which can meet all apron lighting requirements while minimizing the number of obstacles in the aircraft parking apron.
The purpose of this RFI is to inform the Airport of the technological and cost feasibility of new and innovative lighting solutions, which may or may not be integrated into a future capital project.
B. Reference Materials
Attachment 1: Illustrates the existing aircraft parking layout.
Attachment 2: Illustrates the future aircraft parking layout.
Attachment 3: Illustrates the contours of the critical aeronautical surfaces above the site, expressed in feet above mean sea level (AMSL) relative to the 0’ origin of the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). For purposes of this RFI, you may assume that the ground level is between 9’ and 11’ AMSL NAVD88.
