AI Summary
Ferris State University requests proposals for an identity verification solution to support password resets, account claiming, LMS test verification, admissions, financial aid fraud prevention, and online testing for a diverse user base across multiple jurisdictions.
Ferris State University needs a simple, reliable, and robust solution to provide identity verification for our users. We have identified several areas that may need identity verification. Password reset/unlocking– we are looking to allow our users to prove who they are when they are locked out, need to set up their account, or need to change their password. Account Claiming – we would like to provide our new staff/faculty/students with a quick and easy method of claiming their account and getting it set up. The users of this portion of the system would be new staff/faculty/students but would ultimately be part of the ongoing use of the system for password resets and unlocking. Canvas testing/quiz/other verification – the campus uses a learning management system (LMS) known as canvas. The solution does utilize single sign on (SSO) along with muti-factor authentication (MFA) to verify students, but we would like a more robust way to prove a student’s identity before taking a test, quiz, or before submitting an assignment. Admissions – before a student can apply for and receive financial aid, they must go through the admissions process. We could look at verifying students at this stage, before they get to the financial aid process and awarding. We have many applicants that would not have a university account at the time of applying. We utilize Slate as our admissions platform and would like to, if we utilize the solution at this point, have the verification and results be integrated into the Slate system if possible. Financial aid– there has been an increase in bad actors filling out admissions applications and getting to the financial aid process with the intent of defrauding the government. We need a way to verify the user’s identity before financial aid is released. Testing Center – we need a way of verifying users’ identities when they take online tests and certifications. User Counts: We have 1,600 staff and faculty and 10,500 students. In addition, we have about 500 retirees and about 60,000 alumni. We receive about 18,000 applications yearly. We would have about 3,500 that would potentially become students if we only did the verification process before financial aid award. We have a variety of users in multiple states as well as multiple countries. The solution will have to be able to provide identity verification using documents available in each state or country.
SLED stands for State, Local, and Education. These are solicitations issued by state governments, counties, cities, school districts, utilities, and higher education institutions — as opposed to federal agencies.
