It is required that the system chosen have the ability to connect to OPWDD's Electronic Health Record, which will allow OPWDD to manage one platform for everything, enhance workflow and efficient communication within dental clinics, while increasing the productivity of the staff and enhancing overall practice results. Dental care is a significant need for the people supported by OPWDD. In order to optimize services and to increase the quality and amount of dental care services OPWDD is able to provide, a new, updated solution is required. The Electronic Dental Record will help to streamline the daily business operations of our dental clinics and will include scheduling, and documentation/keeping patient records. It will also include tracking insurance claims, charting dental history, e-prescribing and imaging. Dental care is extremely difficult to find in the community for people with DD. Having the ability to provide quality, comprehensive dental services will benefit the people in need of such services by allowing them the same technology that is seen in community dental practices and decreasing the wait time for some people to receive these services. OPWDD is planning to expand dental services throughout the state, so that all our regions are supported. Dental care is important in a person’s overall health. Not having proper dental care can lead to other health issues such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, kidney disease, infections and some cancers. It is of utmost importance to OPWDD that we ensure that we are addressing the overall health needs of the people we support. Having the ability to address their dental needs, including documentation, will allow us to meet this need.
