Project Description with Site Plan A. Intent, Purpose and Background The Village of Kinderhook, NY, (a municipal contractor working under a New York Forward (NYF) grant and project contract C1003027 issued by the New York State Department of State (NYSDOS), intends to Reconfigure and Improve Rothermel Park to include upgrades for new playground equipment, sporting courts, and the addition of other playground items and amenities. To accomplish this objective, the Village of Kinderhook is hereby issuing this Request for Proposals (RFP) to procure an engineering planning and landscaping consultant to undertake the development of draft and final design, and construction documents to include drawings, plans, specifications, lists of equipment to procure, and produce cost estimates in preparations to conduct the Bid Processes and the Selection of a Construction Contractor. Located in Columbia County, Rothermel Park is located within the Village of Kinderhook boundary at 19 Rothermel Avenue. Rothermel Park is a popular community gathering space that contains three baseball fields, a tennis court with pickleball markings, an outdoor pavilion, a playground, public bathrooms, basketball court and it is adjacent to the Albany-Hudson Electric Trail Trailhead with parking and a bike-repair station. Upon the Village of Kinderhook’s execution of a project contract with NYS DOS a steering committee, comprised of the Mayor, two Trustees (serving as Committee Chairpersons), the DPW Supervisor, and several community volunteers, was formed to guide the decision making process and to move this project forward to completion, see Attachment B. This endeavor is a community-based initiative, and it is important to consider resident input as well as embracing processes and concepts that incorporate better ideas for the utilization of public space.
