Athens-Clarke County is seeking qualified theatrical rigging contractors to perform repairs and upgrades to the stage rigging system at the historic Morton Theatre, located in downtown Athens, Georgia. The work outlined in this Request for Proposal is based on findings from a recent professional rigging inspection and is intended to restore the system to safe, code-compliant and fully operational conditions.
The Morton Theatre is a historic performance space originally constructed in 1910. The stage rigging system includes a single purchase counterweight fly system and a fire curtain assembly that have experienced age-related wear and deficiencies since its installation in 1992 by Secoa and partial reconditioning by Sapsis in 2010.
The system was inspected by SRS Rigging in 2019 and again in 2025. These inspections identified several components requiring replacement, realignment or upgrading to meet current safety and operational standards.
